Kirkwood Hospice has Calderdale Framework Training Manual donated for their therapy staff’s clinical skills development.
The nationally acclaimed Calderdale Framework is a transformational workforce development tool. It was developed by Rachael Smith and Jayne Duffy, both physiotherapists by profession and directors of Effective Workforce Solutions Ltd. It is a framework which can be used to improve the way people work. It provides a clear and systematic method of reviewing skills mix, roles and service design to ensure safe and effective patient-centred care.
Lisa Wright, recently appointed clinical specialist physiotherapist at Kirkwood hospice, was aware of The Calderdale Framework and the competencies, from her time working in the rehabilitation directorate at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust where it is widely used to ensure competence of staff can be evidenced, thus assuring a safe, effective and quality care for patients.
Lisa wanted to ensure the same was the case for her patients at the hospice, so approached Jayne and Rachael as former colleagues to ask if they would be willing to share their products with them.
Rachael said “We were delighted to be asked. As all therapy staff in the acute sector are competency trained, we know the quality of care will continue along the patients journey, the MacMillan Rehabilitation team also work in this way, so the continuity for our patients is fantastic”.
Jayne added “It’s great to be able to support our colleague’s personal development in the hospice too, as it can be quite isolated, so we are equally pleased for them as we are for our patients to be donating this resource. Hopefully this could be a catalyst for more joining up and sharing across the region.”
